If you or your close family are from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein, and you started living in the UK before 1^st January 2021, you can apply for the free EU Settlement Scheme. This means that you would not need to get a visa to work in the UK. Irish citizens do not need to apply for the EU Settlement Scheme or a visa.

How long does the application take?

Your application will usually be decided within 6 months. It may take longer if it's complicated, for example: your supporting documents need to be verified.

How long does the Asylum & Protection last ?

You and your dependants may be given permission to stay in the UK for 5 years if you qualify for asylum. This is known as 'leave to remain'. After 5 years, you can apply to settle in the UK.
